Partner Talks: Shaping Engineering's’ Future with Chris Robinson from Ansys
Engineering simulation software Ansys has been a global leader in their field for years. They develop advanced simulation software that enables companies across various industries to solve complex engineering challenges by simulating product designs and performance virtually, saving time and costs.
Their tools are widely used in fields like aerospace, automotive, and electronics. And they’re also one of our software partners! In this interview, Chris Robinson, Senior Product Manager Additive Manufacturing at Ansys, discusses everything AM with our CEO Pieter.
The Role of AM in Shaping Engineering's Future
Pieter: “Welcome, Chris! We’re glad to have this opportunity to discuss the future of engineering and Additive Manufacturing with you. We're particularly interested in how you see additive manufacturing shaping both the engineering industry and supply chains.”
Chris: “Thank you for having me, Pieter. I see AM as a method to being able to improve the quality of life all across the globe, now and in the future, through enabling companies to manufacture optimized designs and complex geometries. We believe that there is an extremely strong future of digital engineering, which correlates perfectly with the digital manufacturing methods of AM.
We see the value of flexible supply chains enabled through the use of AM. I am really excited about what our software solutions are bringing to the engineering community for simulating and validating designs before they go into production.”
“The proposition of leveraging analytics and engineering software together to reduce the overall non-recurring engineering cost for producing enhanced products is very interesting.” - Chris
Transforming Product Development with AM and Analytics
Pieter: “I couldn’t agree more. At Dimanex, we’ve developed advanced AI Additive Manufacturing Analytics that help identify which parts are suitable for redesign or re-engineering for additive manufacturing. We see a huge opportunity to integrate these analytics with powerful engineering software like yours.
This combination would give engineering departments the tools they need to save time, reduce costs, save material, use more sustainable materials and streamline the entire design and production process.”
Chris: “Those benefits you just mentioned are exactly what is needed to fully realize the true value that AM can bring to the product development cycle. The proposition of leveraging analytics and engineering software together to reduce the overall non-recurring engineering cost for producing enhanced products is very interesting. It just makes sense to use analytics first to identify the biggest potential and then apply our engineering capabilities to execute on those insights and really seize those benefits.”
“This partnership is a game-changer for businesses looking to fully realize the benefits of AM in their product management process.” - Pieter
The synergy in our software
Pieter: “I fully agree. Our analytics leverage AI algorithms to analyze a company’s existing inventory and identify parts that meet specific criteria for Additive Manufacturing. By analyzing data, our platform identifies parts where a shift to Additive Manufacturing would offer benefits in terms of cost, lead time, and performance.
In addition, it also identifies parts with the biggest re-design potential using AM, and quantifies those benefits in terms of material savings, cost savings and ESG metrics benefits like CO2 emissions.”
Chris: “There is definitely synergy here. The combination of our software products helps engineering departments save time, focus on the right parts and immediately execute on insights gained. Furthermore, our simulation software could then be used to refine the design of those parts for optimal performance with additive manufacturing processes, considering material properties and printing parameters.
We have a diverse product portfolio that caters to a wide range of additive manufacturing needs. This saves engineers time and helps them get products First-Time-Right to the market.”
“I am really excited about what our software solutions are bringing to the engineering community for simulating and validating designs before they go into production.” - Chris
Ansys and Dimanex: a powerful duo
Pieter: “Exactly! An engineering department that can rapidly identify parts eligible for engineering and production in additive manufacturing using our analytics, and then seamlessly leverage Ansys software to redesign and validate those parts within a single, integrated workflow. This is a game-changer for businesses looking to fully realize the benefits of AM in their product management process.”
Chris: “I completely agree. At Ansys, we're committed to collaborating with innovative companies to deliver comprehensive solutions to our customers. We're always open to exploring new opportunities to push the boundaries of what's possible in engineering and manufacturing. Our joint efforts are a good example of this strategy.”
Ansys’ Students and Academic programs
Pieter: “We believe that by working together, we can empower companies to embrace additive manufacturing and gain a competitive advantage in their market. We’ve also been impressed by Ansys’s commitment to supporting the next generation of engineers through your "Students and Academic" programs. Is there potential for integrating our Additive Manufacturing Analytics into those programs as well?”
Chris: “We’re always looking for opportunities to enhance our educational programs, and we can definitely explore that further.”
Pieter: “I appreciate your time and insights today, Chris. I believe there's a real synergy between our organizations and products, and we're excited to jointly bring the benefits of our collaboration to the market.”
